Module 1
Raw materials and ceramic mixes: technological characteristics of the finished product

The aim of this module is to introduce participants to the techniques currently used to evaluate new raw materials, with a specific focus on developing and defining quality control procedures.
The ultimate goal is to analyse the structure of ceramic raw materials and establish criteria for developing new or modifying existing mixes with a view to achieving and maintaining high quality control standards.
Module 2
Grinding and ceramic body preparation

This module focuses on the technologies used in ceramic body preparation with the following goals:
- To gain a better understanding of the processes involved in ceramic body production.
- To enable technicians to identify the most suitable body preparation technology according to the raw materials being used.
- To optimise the production process and achieve high production efficiency and product quality.
Module 3
Pressing of ceramic tiles

This module explores the technology used for shaping ceramic tiles and has the following goals:
- To gain a deeper understanding of the forming process used in ceramic tile production.
- To optimise the pressing process and achieve high production efficiency and product quality.
Module 4
Drying and firing of ceramic tiles

This module explores the technology used for drying and firing ceramic tiles and has the following goals:
- To gain a better understanding of drying and firing processes for both traditional tiles and large-sized tiles and slabs.
- To optimise these processes in order to achieve high production efficiency and product quality.
Module 5
Tile manufacturing defects: Diagnosis and resolution

Goals of this module:
- To explore the ways in which the most common defects in ceramic floor and wall tile production (including double-fired, single-fired and porcelain stoneware tiles) are linked to the process parameters adopted at each stage of the production process.
- To give participants the knowledge they need to manage production processes effectively and avoid manufacturing defects.
Module 6
Process and product controls: Management, timing and methods

This module explores the process and product controls adopted in each state of the production cycle, from incoming raw materials for body and glazes through to sorting and packaging. The main goals are:
- To identify the critical steps in the production process and plan the type and frequency of controls.
- To define acceptance parameters and create quality control charts (where applicable).
- To provide examples of record sheets and handling of non-conformities.
Module 7
International technical standards for ceramic tiles

This module focuses on the measurement and testing of ceramic tiles in accordance with international standards.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Accurately perform measurements and testing on ceramic tiles and evaluate the results in relation to the intended areas of use.
- Identify and implement the main technical standards applicable at both national and international levels.
Module 8
The plant as a whole

This module looks at how a holistic approach can be used to optimise production processes.
It emphasises the importance of effectively combining machinery and human resources to achieve goals. Building on the knowledge they have gained in other course modules, participants will learn how to achieve the perfect balance between production, quality and costs.
